The Management of Sakthi College of Arts and Science pays much attention in developing the Physical, the Academic and the Support Facilities in the college campus. The policy of the Institution is to rise and augment infrastructural facilities to cater to the growing needs in the teaching - learning process. Such an effort would bring the benefit of better value for funds, enhanced quality service and increasing efficiency.

The college has adequate infrastructural facilities to run the academic and administrative programmes. The college campus spreads over 5.2 acres of serene eco friendly academic ambience. It is blessed with a congenial atmosphere essential for a vibrant scholastic learning process.

The institution has sufficient number of Class rooms, Library, Laboratories, Seminar Hall, Auditorium, Canteen and Playgrounds. As the number of courses offered by the college increases, the requirement for additional class room also increases. To meet this demand the Management sanctions sufficient funds. New infrastructure is created and the existing ones are upgraded. Stable and proper maintenance of infrastructure has helped the optimal usage of existing facilities.

The institution has spacious, well-ventilated and adequately furnished classrooms. Each class is provided with fan, LED bulbs, light, adequate seating facilities. The classrooms consist of a raised platform and the traditional blackboard for better teaching activity. The neem trees that peep through the windows spread the message of goodness to the students. All class rooms are connected to the Principal’s Chamber with Public Addressing system.

The Procedure:

The infrastructure policy of the College is designed, developed and revised keeping in view the statutory requirements, the technological developments and the infrastructure need analysis. At the end of the every academic year, the availability and the working condition of all types of facilities in the campus are inspected and listed down. In addition, the College Council prepares lists based on the needs at all levels. A discussion is held with the Principal of the college regarding the requirements and the final consolidated list is brought to the perusal of the Management. The Management heeds to the requirements and sanctions the needs. With the well-structured plan and budget, the Physical, Academic and the Support facilities are fulfilled at once.

Maintenance of Infrastructure:

  • The college campus is maintained by the employed workers with utmost care.
  • The staff are allotted block wise, for the daily cleaning and maintenance of the classrooms.
  • The technical workers, employed by the college look after the maintenance of laboratory equipment, development and maintenance of the college website and installation and maintenance of software, the installation and maintenance of CCTV cameras, LED displays and touch screen devices.
  • The security guards have been appointed for the campus security.
  • Non-regular works such as painting, carpentry, etc. are outsourced by the Management.

User-conducive Campus:

  • The Management adopts certain measures to make the campus user-conducive: Classroom furniture are checked and repaired regularly.
  • Gardening and watering plants are systematically.
  • The in-house staff looks after all the electrical and the electronic repairs
  • The entire campus is cleaned daily.
  • The college maintains healthy ambience by maintaining Plastic-free Campus and Litter-free Area.

The founding Vision of Sakthi College of Arts and Science is
  • Empowering the rural womenfolk with quality higher education and mould them into globally competent individuals.

Objective:

As the college is located in the midst of rural set up, the Management of the college realizes that empowering the rural women learners, hailing from the villages must be its prime focus. So, in admission process, the underprivileged women and in particular, the first generation learners are given preference. Admission is made open to all the eligible candidates without discrimination.

Adherence to Rules:

Every academic programme is offered by the college only after getting the permanent affiliation status from Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal. Admission to the various courses is made as per the guidelines of Mother Teresa Women’s University, Directorate of Collegiate Education and Government of Tamil Nadu.

Admission Committee:

The Admission Committee of the college, consisting of the Chairman, the Principal and two senior faculty members, representing the communities, monitors the entire admission process and ensures adherence to the admission criteria and transparency in admission decisions.

Issue of Applications:

Before the rise of the pandemic, the application forms for admission have been issued along with the prospectus during the first week of May every year. The prospectus provides a profile of the college and information on the eligibility criteria, the optional and electives offered and the admission procedure followed.

During the lockdown period, due to the pandemic, the application forms are made available in the College website (http://www.sakthiwomenscollegedgl.com)and the candidates are allowed to download, fill and send to the college along with the scanned images of certificates and testimonials.

The Quota Preference:

The college adheres to the Admission norms prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu in following the Community-wise quota preference given to the candidates. Allotment is made based on merit and communal reservations. As such, the ranking list for all the quota-wise communities is prepared and intimated to the candidate as per the ranking list.
Candidates falling under the Sports Quota, The Physically Challenged and the Wards of the Ex-servicemen are given special preference as per the percentage of allotment.
The provisionally selected students are also intimated by post. When they do not turn up for admission, the second and the third lists are prepared as per the norms set by the regulatory body.

The Interview and Admission:

The counselling to the selected candidates is done through single window system. The selected candidates are asked to attend an interview with her parent. A panel of the Chairman of the college and the Faculty identify the knowledge rate, skills, the diverse economic, cultural, regional, religious and linguistic background certain as well as the constraints that the candidate has at the economical level. This study helps the institution to promote the education of the candidate at all levels.
The college assures that it will always abide by the regulations of the Statutory Bodies.

Highlights:

As per the ear-marked seats under the Sports Quota, the women sports persons are given admission on the basis of their performance. They are exempted from the payment of fees.

Sakthi College of Arts and Science has the vision of empowering women through value-based education, with special concern for the economically disadvantaged and the first generation learners. The ultimate objective of the institution is to promote the educational standard of the learners, so that they could empower themselves by becoming professionals. Within a short span of eleven years, the institution has upgraded seven Under-graduate departments into Research departments, by introducing Pre-doctoral Programmes (M.Phil.,) The quality and standard of these programmes are sustained by a neatly designed Research Policy and Procedure.

Research & Development Cell:

The quality of teaching and learning will enhance, when an institution emphasizes research activities, both of the teachers and the scholars. In Sakthi College of Arts and Science, a Research & Development Cell has been established, so that it can act as a support and enabling system. Role of the Research Committee:

  • Encouraging the faculty and the research scholars to publish research articles in indexed, peer reviewed journals.
  • Encouraging the research scholars to undertake National level eligibility examinations.
  • Encouraging and facilitating the faculty and the research scholars to attend the conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops within and outside the country.
  • Motivating each department to organize International and National level seminars, conferences and workshops every year.
  • Providing partial financial support to the faculty, who participate and present research articles in International conferences / seminars.
  • Insisting the research guides and the research scholars to avoid ethical violations in research and prevent malpractices like plagiarism, piracy and dishonesty.

Sakthi College of Arts and Science pays prime attention in empowering the Divyangyan i.e. the students with disabilities. The recommendations of the statutory Bodies regarding the welfare of the students with disabilities are taken into consideration with utmost care and attention and action has been taken.

Reservation of Seats:

In compliance with the provision of Section 32 of the Rights of Person with Disabilities Act, 2016, the college provides 3% reservation of seats during admission for Divyangjan.

Barrier Free Environment:

The college has adopted and implemented the Harmonized Guidelines and Space Standards for Barrier free Built Environment for Persons with Disability and Elderly Persons, developed in February, 2016 by Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. Accordingly, the given measures have been taken:

  • The Rights of Persons with Disability Bill, 2014 “inclusive education” means a system of education wherein students with and without disability learn together and the system of teaching and learning is suitably adopted to meet the learning needs of different types of students with disabilities. Such system of education is followed in this institution.
  • Students with disabilities are given a comprehensive ‘disability specific’ orientation program with the main orientation program conducted for non-disabled students; this ensures a general awareness among non-disabled students about disability issues their disabled peers might face and also sensitize them to their needs.
  • The ramps with handrails and non-slippery surface have been constructed for the convenience of the Divyangjan.
  • The western washroom facility is available to the physically challenged students.
  • For the visually challenged students, special coaching and Scribe arrangements are done.

Equal Opportunity Cell:

Internal committee named “Equal Opportunity Cell” has been formed on 10.01.2020 to take care of the needs of the Divyangjan in the college. The Cell, comprising teachers, staff, students and parents takes care of the day-to-day needs of the differently-abled persons. The Cell conducts competitions for Divyangjan of all disciplines to bring out their hidden skills. They are also encouraged to participate in Inter-collegiate competitions.
